Even though I used to abhor Valentine’s day, I forever turned it into a highlight of happiness when, Valentine’s day 2003, I asked my lovely Lise to marry me. Of course you already knew that but I had to find a reason to post today so I’ll gladly repeat myself. Happy Valentine’s to everyone!

Another still from the same wedding proves the title of this post. Well, at least as far as weather is concerned. And, okay, there are certain limits too. Lightning striking the photographer would be one and others that come to mind are the groom being swept away in an avalanche or the bride flying off in a hurricane. Oh, and I do hate getting wet. But for everything else: the badder, the better. As long as it isn’t too cold, that is.

It’s been a while since I shot a wedding, but last Thursday it was time again to pack some 10 kg of gear and head to Amsterdam. This shot here was taken in the beautiful garden of Museum van Loon on the Keizersgracht. It’s one of my favorites of the day. Udo & Femke, have a great honeymoon; it was a joy working with you!

This Friday I shot the wedding of Jose & Richard. A great couple, lousy weather and the darkest church I’ve ever visited. We photographers have lenses that allow us to shoot in ‘available light’. This however was a case of ‘available darkness’ which required some improvisation but I’m happy to tell them they’ve got quite a few great images.

When you marry on the edge of the stormy end of autumn and the cold beginning of winter, it’s bound to mean something when the skies open up for exactly the twelve hours of your wedding. That’s precisely what happened last saturday. A & M, my wish for you is that the skies always open up wherever you go! Note to self: next time specify “bringing great weather” on the bill and charge a couple of hundred extra.

On popular request I’ve had the nerve to publish images from a few of the weddings I shot this year. As you will see, I use a photojournalistic style to portray the whole event: from the moment the bride puts on her make-up until the last guests have left the reception. Click on weddings in the menu on the right to start a slideshow or contact me directly for more information and bookings.

That would be the title of the song by Queen that always pops in my mind when I see a longtime bachelor friend in front of an altar, and particularly when he does so at his own wedding. In this case however, something can be said to support his case as he has found a thrilling bride that radiates joy, no matter what. So, Mr. and Mrs. D: well chosen, both of you, and enjoy your honeymoon in Tuscany!

Hardcore brides & grooms choose a magical date. Like this longtime friend and ex-colleague of mine who got married on this day filled with lucky numbers: 07-07-07. I’m just glad they didn’t decide to get married at 07:07 AM, which according to television some others did. With those numbers they probably don’t need my best wishes but here’s to you all the same!

Dutch friends living in Paris got married today in the Netherlands. Being a Dutch photographer living in Paris it was only logical that I was there to frame the day on digital celluloid (it was logical, wasn’t it? At least we all thought it was?). Anyway, M & E, you make a lovely couple and I’m proud to have witnessed this glorious day: congratulations!

Today I shot the wedding of two very good friends in Amsterdam. However beautiful their old Volvo sports car may be, it was definitely trumped by the couple who seemed to radiate throughout the day. As a photographer you get to get up close and personal and it was a joy to be there. Dear SB & CC, may all the best things of life be bestowed upon thou!
