February 27th, 2009go with the flow

While scrolling through some old stuff on my Mac I found this image of a motorcyclist in Paris, taken years ago. It was my first attempt at a technique called panning, where you track a moving object using a slow shutter speed, and -clearly- I didn’t succeed at all. The thing is: while there are quite a few in the same series that are spot on, I like this one best by far. Suddenly I’m not thrilled at all that I’ve finally mastered the technique and I’m still trying to figure out the bloody lesson in all of this…

December 15th, 2008champs elysées, christmas lights

From the same series as last week: the Champs Elysées with Christmas lighting. Why everybody who visits Paris wants to stroll along this most polluted, busiest and extremely touristy avenue in town still is beyond me, even after 4 years, but you sure can take some nice pictures over there. I think I just might have answered my own question…

December 9th, 2008paris, ça bouge!

Place de la Concorde, the special end-of-the-year ferris wheel and a slow shutter speed make for fun photography. Paris always seems to be on the move, except for the tried and trusted old architecture and monuments that remain a safe haven. You can see them here, steadfast among hectic city life. Paris, ça bouge!

Perhaps I should explain what I was doing on a speedboat in Rotterdam: Ford introduced its brand new nifty little Ka to its dealer network and chose me to photograph things again. Same disclaimer: I still drive Volvo; as it’s built on a Ford platform and sports a Peugeot diesel engine I figure I can do all events of most major car manufacturers.

September 21st, 2008filter fun

After being busy shooting weddings and events it was fun to just head into Paris with a new filter I bought a month ago but didn’t have the time to try out yet. It’s a 10 stop neutral density filter that makes it possible to shoot long exposures in daytime like the 15 second exposure here above. Be prepared for more of this in the weeks to come.

September 18th, 2008a car is a car is a car #2

Ingredients: again Disneyland Paris, in this image ‘only’ one Ford Fiesta, one great show and no less than 200 representatives of Ford dealers in the Netherlands. Today the day the new Ford Fiesta was unveiled to them, I was the photographer and this was without a doubt the most professionally organised event I’ve ever witnessed. Disclaimer: I drive Volvo.

September 16th, 2008a car is a car is a car #1

Ingredients: a parking lot, Disneyland Paris, no less than 250 new Ford Fiestas, a rising sun and one photographer: me. In short: heaven, from a photographers point of view that is as I’m sure the likes of Volkswagen or Peugeot think otherwise. One of the many images I took is shown above. More to follow soon on this page.

September 25th, 2007miraculous motorbike

Here I was thinking of bikers as rough & tough. Turns out they’re a religious bunch! “No way”, you say, and don’t kid me because I can hear you say it. You think I photoshopped the image of the Holy Virgin on top of the fueltank of that worn BSA. Admit it! Honestly, I didn’t. As I said before: they’re a very religous part of our society now. We can all go to sleep peacefully, as the Order of the Bikers is watching out over their brethren. Makes me wonder if the Pope rides a BSA or a Harley?
